Embedded Systems Design Specialist

Your main responsibilities will be advising and helping researchers and students to specify, design, validate and characterize state-of-the art embedded systems for a broad spectrum of applications, including: instrumentation, Internet of Things (IoT) and wearable applications, bio-signal processing, long-term monitoring and logging, wireless sensor networks, telecommunication, and digital signal processing for audio and video signals. As part of a team that supports research and teaching at ETHZ, you will often be asked to find solutions for systems that push the limits of what can be done with off the shelf components. You will also be asked to help researchers and students to find suitable solutions making use of embedded microcontrollers, programmable multi-core systems-on-chip, power subsystems, energy harvesters, analog to digital and digital to analog converters, communication modules and field-programmable gate array solutions that are available today. We expect you also to deliver focused training modules and practical lab sessions to students and researchers on these topics.

We are looking for candidates who have experience in designing state-of-the-art embedded systems for a variety of applications, are motivated to work in an environment where creative technical problem solving is needed to support researchers and students. Given the level and breadth of technical challenges to be addressed, a PhD degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering would be preferred. The candidates should have 5+ years experience (in industry or qualified research institutions) in programming modern microcontroller systems, data converters, PCB and system design as well as FPGA based systems. A good command of written and spoken English is necessary for technical interaction in a multi-cultural environment. Experience in organizing technical training courses and laboratory activities at an undergraduate level is highly desirable.
